But Ani’s friend, Mahea the Owl, shows them all that it’s okay to be different—and that it can be great fun! It’s Okay to Be Different was written by Mahealani Sims-Tulba to help spread an anti-bullying awareness campaign.
Author Mahealani Sims-Tulba is an ‘Ewa Beach, Hawai‘i, student. She is the reigning Miss Hawai‘i Junior High School America 2013 and has been presented with the Presidential Volunteer Service Gold Level Award by President Barack Obama. Sims-Tulba has also been recognized by Hawai‘i Lieutenant Governor Shan Tsutsui and the Hawai‘i State Senate for her dedication to bringing her anti-bullying message statewide. Her pagent platform, The Crown C.A.R.E.S. (Creating a Respectful Environment in Schools), was created to help make a difference for kids, parents and schools by uniting, egnaging and educating communities to prevent bullying. A victim of bullying herself, Sims-Tulba’s goal is to make a difference for other students.
