There's trouble in paradise in this murder mystery novel
Death on Diamond Head introduces the character of Honolulu Police Detective Kimo Rigg, a veteran cop whose career has been sidetracked by a whistleblower lawsuit. Now assigned to the Unsolved Crimes Section, created by Rigg’s nemesis, Deputy Chief Ed Chin to warehouse the whistleblower, Rigg can expect to spend his last years on the force investigating whatever pointless matters Chin can dig up. His first target is a graffiti artist, but before Rigg can start on the case, he lands in the middle of a murder. In fact, the victim’s body is dumped almost on Rigg’s doorstep, down the hill from his new house on Diamond Head.
In the Hawaii of this fictional murder mystery, five years ago a series of brutal slayings tore Honolulu apart. When the bodies of young girls started turning up at island beach parks, HPD pulled out all the stops to catch the man they called the Double-Crosser. When their prime suspect was found dead and the killings abruptly stopped, everyone figured the case was closed. Now, Rigg isn’t so sure. The latest killing has all of the Double Crosser’s trademarks, and there’s another tie to the old case; the victim was a key witness against their old suspect. That’s one too many coincidences for Rigg, who now must follow a twisting path into the dark heart of a case no one wants reopened. Rigg’s investigation takes him back in time and all over the island, opening old wounds and awakening bad memories, hoping to stop a killer he thinks might be starting a new nightmare for Honolulu. And he’ll have to hurry, because HPD has a suspect of their own, and the picture Homicide is showing to witnesses is Kimo Rigg’s.
Written by a law enforcement officer, Death on Diamond Head provides an insider’s look at police work in paradise, and a suspenseful ride to a surprising conclusion.
